Wisconsin sits among the states TTUHSC's licensure page marks as meeting requirements, with no bar on residents. It also regulates visiting schools directly: Wisconsin expects nursing programs based elsewhere, graduate programs among them, to hold its Board of Nursing's approval. Wisconsin approves schools from other states, graduate ones too
Wisconsin Administrative Code N 1.06 holds the approval standards for nursing schools located outside the state, and Wisconsin's application form for those schools (Form 3067-OEE, revised April 13, 2026) is blunt: they must carry Board of Nursing approval. The form reaches every level, from practical nursing up to graduate study, and expressly counts post-licensure bachelor's programs too. Staying approved means sending DSPS a periodic self-evaluation on Form 3069OEE.
Two things follow for you. Whether TTUHSC holds current Wisconsin approval is not something public sources confirm, so raise it with your program director early. And anyone teaching or precepting you in a Wisconsin clinical setting needs licensure in Wisconsin, or a legal privilege to practice there, on top of the approvals TTUHSC's own staff and faculty give the preceptor and facility (preceptor requirements).
APNP becomes APRN: the 2026 practice change
Wisconsin used to license advanced practice nurse prescribers, or APNPs. Under 2025 Wisconsin Act 17, effective at the start of September 2026, the state's licensing department (DSPS) grants APRN licenses to nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists, clinical nurse specialists and nurse-midwives, and it has switched every existing APNP credential over to the new license. An APRN who wants to work independently, with no collaborating physician, files a separate application the Board must approve.
AANP's summary still counts Wisconsin as reduced practice, since physician collaboration remains the default arrangement, and it flags the new law's start date. Your preceptor may practice either way, and the license details we gather will likely show the new APRN title.
Your license in a compact state
Wisconsin has been part of the multistate RN compact since January 2018. A multistate Wisconsin RN license therefore fits TTUHSC's MSN rule, whose license clause names Texas licenses and compact multistate licenses, current and unencumbered. DNP study needs only a current, unencumbered RN license from some U.S. state. Wisconsin has not adopted the separate APRN Compact. Our RN license guide sets out the wording.

TTUHSC offers its graduate tracks online and holds clinical courses in the student's home area, with SON approval of the preceptor and of the facility.

Meets is a green light to apply, not a seat in a cohort. Because regulations keep moving, TTUHSC declines to promise, when your application comes in, that it can accept students from certain states, and it refers applicants living outside Texas to its Admissions Team. From Wisconsin, add the Board approval question to that conversation.
Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay and Appleton
Milwaukee-Waukesha is by far the largest metro; Madison, Green Bay and Appleton follow. Aspirus Health, UW Health, Froedtert ThedaCare Health, Ascension Wisconsin and Aurora Health Care (part of Advocate Health) are the big systems. They show where NPs practice; none is a TTUHSC site by default, and each sets its own student rules.
If a move to another state is coming, TTUHSC requires graduate online students to report it no less than 60 days before relocating, and the destination state's approval depends on the clinical placement proposed there. Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois and Michigan all carry TTUHSC's Meets mark for the MSN NP tracks, though each has its own rules (moving guide, Michigan).

Does TTUHSC need Wisconsin Board approval for my clinical?
Wisconsin's form for out-of-state schools says they must be approved by its Board of Nursing, and graduate programs fall within its scope. Whether TTUHSC's approval is on file is not public, so confirm with your program director before arranging a Wisconsin site. TTUHSC's own approval of the preceptor and facility is still required.
Can I study TTUHSC's online FNP from Milwaukee or Madison?
Wisconsin shows Meets for the FNP and every other MSN NP track, so an application is possible. TTUHSC decides admission, and it wants applicants from beyond Texas to settle eligibility with Admissions before they apply. The MSN FNP page covers the track and its home-area clinicals.
What did Wisconsin's new APRN law change?
It retired the APNP credential. As of September 1, 2026, DSPS licenses APRNs by role, four of them, after converting every APNP license, and independent practice without a collaborating physician requires its own Board-approved application. For your search, it mostly means a preceptor's license title may have just changed; their eligibility still rests on Wisconsin licensure.
Must my preceptor be licensed by Wisconsin?
Faculty and preceptors in Wisconsin clinical settings used by out-of-state schools need Wisconsin licensure or a legal privilege to practice in the state. TTUHSC's staff and faculty then approve the preceptor and the facility on their own terms, so both layers need to line up before your first hour counts.
