TTUHSC in Dallas and Mansfield
TTUHSC at Dallas is a branch campus, and TTUHSC at Mansfield is an off-campus instructional site; both sit under TTUHSC's institutional accreditation. The Dallas site offers School of Nursing and pharmacy programs, and the School of Nursing moved into Mansfield for the Traditional BSN in 2021. Each location has a TTUHSC simulation center, and the Mansfield center includes areas built to simulate both acute and primary care settings.
For graduate students, Dallas is mainly a travel stop. Some BSN to DNP intensives take place in Dallas, and Post-Master's DNP students travel there as part of an intensive schedule anchored in Lubbock, while MSN NP students head to Lubbock for OSCEs. UT Southwestern's APP student precepting process
UT Southwestern's Office of Advanced Practice Providers takes advanced practice students through what it calls the APP Student Precept Placement Request. Its page states plainly that the office offers no clinician matching, so a request assumes you already have a UTSW clinician willing to take you. The windows close months before each term begins.

Lay those windows over TTUHSC's calendar. Spring 2027 classes begin January 11, so a UTSW spring request had to be filed by the end of August 2026; the window open in late September 2026 is the one for Summer 2027, when TTUHSC's term starts May 24. UTSW's page describes how one employer of clinicians manages students and says nothing about TTUHSC, whose approval of the preceptor and facility runs separately.
Parkland, Baylor Scott & White and the other large systems
Parkland Health's student placement page is short and direct: it does not place students in rotations itself and asks them to contact their respective school. For a TTUHSC NP student, that means any Parkland-based clinician you find still goes through TTUHSC's preceptor and facility review, and the question of whether an agreement covers the site belongs with the School of Nursing.
Baylor Scott & White also employs clinicians across North Texas. Read its student requirements on its own official pages rather than relying on secondhand summaries, and do the same for every other network in the metro. Where North Texas NP students find preceptors
Academic medical centers are only one slice of the metro. Family practices, urgent care groups, psychiatric clinics, pediatric offices, women's health practices and hospitalist groups are spread across Dallas, Fort Worth and the suburbs between them, and a clinician in a smaller practice can often decide on a student more directly than a large department can.
Distance in a metro this size is measured in time. A preceptor who looks close on a map can mean a long weekday drive, and your clinical hours repeat that trip all semester. Questions TTUHSC students ask
Will UT Southwestern find me an NP preceptor?
No. UTSW's Office of Advanced Practice Providers says it offers no clinician matching, so its request process starts once you already have a UTSW clinician willing to precept. Requests follow fixed windows, months before each term. Even with a UTSW clinician on board, TTUHSC still approves the preceptor and the facility and needs the semester's electronic agreement.
Does Parkland Health place NP students from TTUHSC?
Parkland's student page says it does not place students in rotations directly and tells them to contact their respective school. If you find a Parkland-based clinician willing to precept, take the details to TTUHSC: SON staff and faculty review the preceptor and the facility, and the School of Nursing can tell you where the agreement stands.
Do I have to go to the Dallas campus as a graduate student?
It depends on the program. Some BSN to DNP intensives are held in Dallas, with others in Lubbock and Austin, and Post-Master's DNP students travel to Dallas as part of intensives anchored in Lubbock. MSN NP students sit their OSCEs in Lubbock. Check your program's schedule and share the dates with your preceptor early.
Is TTUHSC's Mansfield site a separate school?
No. TTUHSC describes Mansfield as an off-campus instructional site and Dallas as a branch campus, both depending on TTUHSC's accreditation. The School of Nursing brought the Traditional BSN to Mansfield in 2021, and Mansfield's simulation center includes spaces for acute and primary care scenarios. It is part of TTUHSC, not a separate university.
How early should I start a Dallas-Fort Worth search?
For a system with request windows like UTSW's, several months before the term, since each window closes well ahead of classes. Elsewhere, start at least a full semester early: TTUHSC does not publish its graduate submission deadline, and a new facility agreement takes time. Course faculty or the Graduate Coordinator can confirm the date that applies to you.
