Each quote is built around your placement rather than a menu. Your TTUHSC track and course, where you live, how many rotations you need and how soon they start decide how much work the search takes, and the quote follows that work. You receive it in writing, itemized, before anything begins.

A quote shaped by your placement
Two TTUHSC students can need very different searches. A family nurse practitioner student in Fort Worth with a flexible schedule, looking at a practice that has hosted TTUHSC students before, is one kind of job. A psychiatric NP student who needs a child and adolescent rotation within reach of a small Panhandle town is another. A single flat price would fit neither of them well, so every quote starts from the work your placement actually involves.
Most of that work is search time: finding practices that suit the course, reaching the right clinician, settling dates and weekly hours, and then preparing a complete approval file for TTUHSC. The factors in the next section decide how much of it your placement needs.
What moves a quote up or down
- Your track and course. Settings with many clinicians, such as family primary care near a city, tend to take less search time than pediatric acute care, adult-gerontology acute care or child and adolescent psychiatry, where fewer clinicians precept.
- Where you live and how far you will drive. A wider radius around Dallas-Fort Worth, Lubbock or Midland-Odessa brings more practices into range. In rural West Texas, the distance between towns shapes the search more than anything else.
- How many rotations you need. TTUHSC requires an electronic agreement for each preceptor in each semester, and each clinical course may call for its own preceptor. One rotation, your whole remaining plan, or a course split between two preceptors are quoted differently.
- How soon the term starts. A search that begins a full semester ahead can move at a steady pace. One that starts close to TTUHSC's term dates packs the same work into fewer weeks.
- The facility's standing with TTUHSC. When the clinic has an affiliation agreement with TTUHSC on file, there is less to prepare than for a clinic signing one for the first time.
Your placement advisor goes through each factor with you at intake, and each one appears as a line in the quote, so you can see exactly where the effort goes.

One rotation or your whole plan
Some students come to us for a single course, often the one where their own contacts ran dry. Others want every remaining clinical course lined up at once. Both approaches work, and the quote reflects the one you pick.
Planning several terms together lets us search in sequence, carry forward what we have already verified about a preceptor who stays with you, and start each new term's paperwork early. TTUHSC's own costs sit outside our quote
Some expenses come from TTUHSC's requirements, and you meet them through TTUHSC and its approved vendors whichever way you find a preceptor. Budget for them separately:
- A criminal background check through TTUHSC's institutionally approved vendor, at the student's expense
- Drug screens before most clinical placements and at random, also paid by the student
- Health insurance, which TTUHSC makes mandatory for online programs with clinical requirements
- Certifications your track calls for, such as BLS for every student and ACLS or PALS for certain NP tracks
- For nurse-midwifery only: TTUHSC's clinical placement fee each practicum semester, plus the student's own malpractice insurance

Your placement advisor reviews the details, asks any follow-up questions, and replies with a written, itemized quote naming each rotation and what it includes. Nothing starts until you have read it and said yes.
Questions TTUHSC students ask
Why does a psychiatric or pediatric rotation take more to arrange?
Fewer clinicians precept in those settings, and each one suits a narrower set of courses. A child and adolescent psychiatric rotation or a pediatric acute care rotation usually means more outreach before a clinician agrees, and the quote reflects that search time. The paperwork side is about the same size for every placement.
Does living in a small West Texas town change my quote?
It can. In rural areas the deciding question is usually distance: how many practices sit within a drive you can manage several days a week. Giving us your real radius, plus any towns you already pass through for work or family, often opens options and shortens the search.
Is TTUHSC's midwifery placement fee part of your quote?
No. Nurse-midwifery placement is coordinated by TTUHSC faculty and TTUHSC preceptor and site coordinators, and TTUHSC charges its clinical placement fee for each semester a student is enrolled in a midwifery practicum course. Our quote covers our own work only. Ask the midwifery Program Director what the fee covers for your term.
Can I get a quote before my clinical schedule is final?
Yes. Share your program and expected term, and we can quote from your plan of study. Once your course and dates are confirmed, the quote is updated to match, so you can set a budget early and settle the details later.
