West Virginia and TTUHSC's online nurse practitioner tracks
TTUHSC's licensure page shows West Virginia as open, marked Meets for each of its APRN tracks. The state divides oversight in an unusual way: its RN Board handles prelicensure schools, and graduate programs from elsewhere answer, if at all, to the Higher Education Policy Commission. For an NC-SARA member like TTUHSC, the deciding factor is how many students share one site.

Two agencies, one question: does TTUHSC need approval?
The West Virginia RN Board reserves its approval process for prelicensure education. A prelicensure school from another state has to apply for the Board's out-of-state approval before its students work in a West Virginia facility. Graduate and advanced practice programs get a different referral: the Board sends them to the state's Higher Education Policy Commission, known as WVHEPC, and to whichever national body accredits them.
Inside WVHEPC, a nursing education and workforce office has written a rotation guide for schools based beyond the state. For APRN and graduate programs, WVHEPC approval comes into play when the school's institution is not an NC-SARA participant, or when a single West Virginia site takes ten students or more from it. TTUHSC participates in NC-SARA, which removes the first trigger; the second depends on how many TTUHSC students one facility hosts, something your program director can confirm.
TTUHSC's tracks for a West Virginia resident
TTUHSC runs graduate clinical courses in the student's own area, and SON staff and faculty approve the preceptor and the facility as two separate steps.

None of these marks is an admission decision. TTUHSC's graduate pages note that regulations change, so the school holds back from promising at application that students from certain states can enroll, and out-of-state applicants are asked to reach its Admissions Team first. Your RN license under the state's guide
That guide also speaks to licenses. Graduate students training in West Virginia who live there need a West Virginia RN license, while those whose primary residence is another state need a multistate one. West Virginia has honored the multistate compact since January 2018.
TTUHSC's MSN layers on its own rule, naming two acceptable licenses: a Texas RN license or a compact multistate license, either one current and unencumbered. So check that your West Virginia license carries multistate status. A DNP student may hold an RN license from any state, so long as it is current and unencumbered.
Collaborative practice and the systems behind it
AANP groups West Virginia with the reduced-practice states. Prescribing NPs there keep a physician collaborator through their first three years, and any Schedule II narcotic order stops at three days' worth, limits you will see at work in a preceptor's prescribing.
Vandalia Health brings CAMC, Mon Health and Davis Health together under one banner; WVU Medicine and Marshall Health Network are the other big names. Charleston, Huntington, Morgantown and Martinsburg anchor the main metros, and the Huntington metro takes in parts of Kentucky and Ohio, the Martinsburg one part of Maryland. Pennsylvania next door, and the 60-day rule
Pennsylvania, along West Virginia's northern edge, is one of the states TTUHSC cannot accept graduate students from, so relocating there would put your enrollment in question. Leaving West Virginia for any state starts with notice to TTUHSC at least 60 days out, and the next state then rules on your proposed placement case by case. Questions TTUHSC students ask
Does West Virginia's RN Board approve TTUHSC's NP clinicals?
No. The RN Board confines its approvals to prelicensure programs and sends graduate programs to WVHEPC and to their accreditor instead. Under WVHEPC's guide, an NC-SARA school like TTUHSC needs approval only when ten or more of its students use one West Virginia site. TTUHSC's own approval of your preceptor and facility still applies.
Can I start TTUHSC's online PMHNP track from Charleston or Morgantown?
The door is open to apply, since TTUHSC's disclosure lists the PMHNP and its sibling MSN tracks as Meets for West Virginia. TTUHSC alone decides who is admitted, and applicants from other states should check with its Admissions Team first. Plan the calendar too: the MSN PMHNP admits students for a Spring start only.
What license does a West Virginia rotation call for?
West Virginia's guide asks graduate students who live in the state for a West Virginia RN license and those living elsewhere for a multistate license. For TTUHSC's MSN, make that West Virginia license multistate, because Texas and compact multistate licenses are the two kinds the program accepts. DNP students can use any current, unencumbered RN license issued in the U.S.
Is TTUHSC's BSN to DNP open to West Virginia residents?
West Virginia is marked Meets in TTUHSC's BSN to DNP table, so you may apply. The program starts in Summer, calls for at least 1,080 clinical hours, and brings students to campus at least once a semester for intensives in Lubbock, Austin or Dallas.
