Washington State: TTUHSC's graduate tracks and your address
TTUHSC's licensure page closes Washington's row with the note "TTUHSC SON is unable to accept graduate students from this state." That puts TTUHSC's online NP, midwifery and BSN to DNP tracks out of reach for anyone living in Washington. Relocating changes the picture, and Washington's own education rules, now under review by its board, are worth a look first.

Washington residents, track by track
Nothing about the mark varies by track. The MSN APRN table on TTUHSC's licensure disclosure shows "Meets" with the double asterisk beside Washington, and the Nurse-Midwifery and BSN to DNP tables do likewise. Your Washington address is the sticking point, whichever license you hold.

Leaving Washington: what to settle first
Admissions decides the next step. Each TTUHSC graduate program page tells out-of-state applicants to contact its Admissions Team to see whether they can apply, noting that regulations shift and that acceptance from certain states cannot be promised when an application is submitted. Bring your future address to that conversation.
Your license may already fit. Washington implemented the compact on January 31, 2024, and TTUHSC's MSN tracks take a compact multistate license as readily as a Texas one. Multistate status is anchored to where you primarily live, so ask the boards what a move does to yours, and see the RN license guide.
Washington's rules for programs from other states
WABON, the Washington State Board of Nursing, keeps a list. An out-of-state distance program gets onto it by applying under WAC 246-840-571, proving its standards match Washington's, supervising and evaluating its students inside the state, holding national accreditation and filing a yearly report, and its students start no clinical or practice experience in Washington until then. Programs on the list, which includes RN-BSN, MSN and NP tracks, may place only Washington residents; anything else is an exception WABON weighs individually.
People are covered too. Anyone teaching ARNP practice in Washington for an outside program must be licensed there as an ARNP. The preceptor of an ARNP student needs a current, unencumbered license as an ARNP or as a physician (MD or DO), or the out-of-state equivalent, and family members and personal friends of the student are ruled out.
Expect revisions. WABON opened rulemaking on these education rules with a CR-101 notice dated December 5, 2025, listing clinical-placement barriers among the issues to address. AANP rates Washington full practice. Major systems include MultiCare, UW Medicine, PeaceHealth, Virginia Mason Franciscan Health and Renton-based Providence, and the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metro, at about 4.16 million residents, is by far the state's largest.

Questions TTUHSC students ask
Can I apply to TTUHSC's BSN to DNP while living in Washington?
Not from a Washington address. The BSN to DNP table on TTUHSC's licensure page gives Washington the same "unable to accept graduate students" note as the MSN tables. The BSN to DNP starts in Summer only, so if you are moving to Texas or an accepted state, check eligibility with the Admissions Team well before you apply.
Could a Washington preceptor grant cover a TTUHSC student?
No. WABON's student nurse preceptorship grant, which rewards experienced ARNP, RN and LPN preceptors, excludes out-of-state programs by WABON's own statement, and that holds even if every clinical hour is logged in Washington. TTUHSC counts as out-of-state there, so the grant is meant for preceptors working with students of Washington's own programs.
Is Idaho or Oregon an option for a Washington nurse?
Oregon carries the same TTUHSC note as Washington, as does California, so the whole West Coast is flagged. Idaho is not: its MSN APRN row reads "Meets" without the double asterisk. The Idaho and Oregon guides cover each board's rules, and Admissions confirms eligibility for any new address.
Could I move to Washington during my TTUHSC program?
TTUHSC's handbook makes notice mandatory: graduate online students tell the School of Nursing at least 60 days ahead of a move to another state, and the board approval that follows is case by case, tied to the proposed clinical placement.
