Missouri: how TTUHSC's graduate programs look from here
Missouri residents meet few obstacles in TTUHSC's graduate nursing tracks. Every graduate table on the licensure disclosure gives the state a "Meets," and Missouri's compact membership lets a multistate license satisfy the MSN license rule. The planning happens at the edges, because both big metros spill into neighboring states.

None of that is an offer of admission. TTUHSC's graduate pages note that changing regulations stop them from vouching for every state when you apply, and they direct applicants living outside Texas to its Admissions Team to confirm eligibility first.
A multistate license does the work
The compact sits in Missouri statute at RSMo 335.360, in force since July 20, 2017, and the Board's RN licensing page links to the compact's rules on home-state residence and on what every multistate license requires. Hold a Missouri multistate license with Missouri as your declared home, and TTUHSC's MSN wording is met with no Texas application at all. A single-state Missouri license falls short of it. Missouri's rules for students of outside programs
We looked for a Missouri Board rule obliging schools elsewhere to ask first, or to file notice, before sending students into Missouri clinics, and found none. The Board's education rules, filed at 20 CSR 2200-2, are written for schools holding Missouri Board approval. Section 335.081(6)(a) of the statutes lets a nursing student work under supervision, unlicensed in Missouri, when the school is an approved one, but whether a Texas school counts as approved goes unanswered. Nobody put the question to the Board, so it stays open.
In practice, the approvals that shape a Missouri rotation are TTUHSC's. SON staff and faculty sign off on the preceptor and the facility, and you complete the electronic preceptor agreement for each preceptor every semester.
Collaborative practice for a whole career
AANP rates Missouri as restricted. Missouri NPs stay in collaboration for their whole careers: the arrangement with a physician never lapses, and it comes with caps on ratios plus conditions on chart review and controlled substances. Expect your preceptor's collaborating physician to be part of the picture.
A state income tax credit for community preceptors exists under RSMo 135.690, but it is limited to physicians and PAs precepting Missouri's medical and physician assistant trainees, and NPs are excluded. The St. Louis and Kansas City metros lead in size, with Springfield and Columbia following. SSM Health and BJC HealthCare are big names in the state, and so are Mercy, MU Health Care and CoxHealth. Each is an example of where NPs practice, and each site needs TTUHSC's approval on its own merits.
Two metros, two state lines
Kansas City straddles the Kansas border. Kansas is open to TTUHSC's MSN NP tracks, but TTUHSC marks it "Does not meet" for Nurse-Midwifery and the BSN to DNP, so students in those programs should keep sites on the Missouri side. St. Louis reaches into Illinois, where rule 1300.340(n) has an outside program send a request letter with its syllabus, its signed clinical contract and forms on faculty and preceptors, for an approval good for two years. Whether that reaches graduate programs, the rule leaves unclear.
Moving between states mid-program? Graduate online students notify TTUHSC at least 60 days ahead, and the new state's clinical approval is decided case by case (moving out of state).

Is TTUHSC's MSN FNP an option for a Missouri nurse?
Missouri is listed as "Meets" for the MSN FNP, so a Missouri resident may apply, and clinical hours would run near home once your preceptor and facility are approved. The MSN FNP guide covers the track. Confirm eligibility with TTUHSC's Admissions Team before applying.
Is a Missouri multistate license enough for TTUHSC's MSN?
Yes, provided you declare Missouri as home and the license carries multistate status, current and with nothing encumbering it. TTUHSC's MSN rule accepts compact multistate licenses on the same footing as Texas licenses. Check your license record for multistate status before you apply.
Can my clinical site be on the Kansas side of Kansas City?
It depends on your program. Kansas meets TTUHSC's disclosure for the MSN NP tracks, but TTUHSC marks it "Does not meet" for Nurse-Midwifery and the BSN to DNP. Any Kansas site still needs TTUHSC's approval, so raise it with your course faculty before a preceptor commits.
Does Missouri's preceptor tax credit apply to NP preceptors?
Not to NPs. Only physicians and physician assistants holding Missouri licenses qualify under RSMo 135.690, and only for unpaid teaching of Missouri medical and PA trainees. Nurse practitioners and nursing students sit outside its scope, and research turned up no Missouri incentive designed for NP preceptors.
