Which TTUHSC graduate programs a Kansas resident can take
Kansas gets a split verdict on TTUHSC's professional licensure page. Put simply, a Kansan looking at TTUHSC's graduate nurse practitioner options has the MSN tracks to choose from, while Nurse-Midwifery and the BSN to DNP stay out of reach as long as home is Kansas. TTUHSC gives no reason for the two marks; the licensure disclosure page explains how the tables work. If the post-graduate midwifery certificate interests you, ask Admissions how the Kansas mark applies to it.
Even a Meets mark stops short of admission. TTUHSC's graduate pages say shifting regulations prevent it from committing, at the moment you apply, to accepting students from every state, and they send out-of-state applicants to the Admissions Team to settle eligibility first.
KSBN reviews your program at the finish line
Kansas skips the up-front gatekeeping. The Kansas State Board of Nursing sets no formal approval hurdle for an online APRN program from another state before Kansans sign up; KSBN weighs the program once one of its graduates files for Kansas APRN licensure. The checklist at that stage: at least three credit hours apiece in advanced pharmacology, health assessment and pathophysiology, a program of forty-five credit hours or more, national accreditation, and a floor of role-specialty clinical hours, which rose from 500 to 750 for anyone whose admission came after March 1, 2025.
Because TTUHSC leaves the clinical-hour total unstated for several NP tracks, bring KSBN's list to your program director and match it against your plan of study long before the licensure paperwork.
Kansas wants its own APRN license on your preceptor
When the clinical site is in Kansas, KSBN's APRN guidance calls for an oriented preceptor who has signed an agreement and who is licensed as a Kansas APRN in your role (K.A.R. 60-17-104). The Board goes further on supervision itself: overseeing an APRN student clinically takes Kansas APRN licensure. In practice the pool is Kansas-licensed APRNs in your population focus, and TTUHSC still approves each person and site (preceptor requirements).
Your own footing is your RN license. Kansas lets an APRN student in a Kansas clinical setting practice, under K.S.A. 65-1124, on either a Kansas-only or a multistate RN license, and the multistate version also satisfies TTUHSC's MSN rule of a Texas or compact multistate RN license. TTUHSC's online faculty need no Kansas license, Kansas mandates no faculty site visits, and a visiting instructor comes in a visitor's capacity. AANP counts Kansas as full practice.
Wichita, Topeka, Manhattan and the Kansas side of Kansas City
The Kansas City metro's Kansas portion holds roughly 938,000 residents, more than any other Kansas cluster, with Wichita, Topeka and Manhattan behind it. Ascension Via Christi, Stormont Vail Health, The University of Kansas Health System and Wichita's Wesley Healthcare, part of HCA, are among the systems where Kansas NPs work; read them as landscape, not as TTUHSC sites.
A Missouri-side clinic falls under a different board, so clear it with TTUHSC before counting on it, and remember that Colorado sits on TTUHSC's unable-to-accept list. Moving house mid-program? Can a Kansas resident enroll in TTUHSC's BSN to DNP?
Not while living in Kansas. TTUHSC's disclosure marks Kansas Does not meet for the BSN to DNP, and its licensure page says it cannot enroll students physically located where requirements are unmet. The MSN nurse practitioner tracks are marked Meets for Kansas, so they are the TTUHSC nurse practitioner route to consider from there.
Does TTUHSC need KSBN approval before I start the MSN from Kansas?
Nothing is filed with Kansas up front. By KSBN's account, online APRN programs based in other states enroll Kansans without a formal Board approval; the Board's look at the program waits until a graduate seeks Kansas APRN licensure, when it reviews core credits, total credits, accreditation and clinical hours.
Can a Missouri NP precept me at a Kansas clinic?
Only if that NP also carries a Kansas APRN license in your role, since KSBN's guidance ties precepting at Kansas sites to Kansas licensure. A preceptor holding Missouri credentials alone falls outside it. Every preceptor also needs TTUHSC's approval, so confirm with your course faculty.
Do TTUHSC faculty need Kansas licenses or site visits?
Kansas asks for neither. Online instructors from other states may teach Kansas students without a Kansas license, and the state mandates no clinical site visits; an instructor who does show up is treated as a visitor. TTUHSC has not published its own site-visit practice for NP students, so your course faculty are the people to ask.
