Utah nurses studying with the TTUHSC School of Nursing
Utah is open to TTUHSC's graduate tracks on the school's licensure page, and its full-practice nurse practitioners make capable preceptors. Utah does add a gate: a nursing school based elsewhere has to clear the state's licensing regulators before it trains anyone there, and each preceptor's license gets checked. TTUHSC carries that part; yours is finding a preceptor who fits.

What Utah asks before an outside program's clinicals
Rule R156-31b-609 of the Utah Administrative Code covers nursing schools headquartered outside Utah that want students training in Utah facilities. Such a school must convince the state's licensing Division and its Board on several fronts before a single placement, and graduate study gets no exception.
- Approval from the nursing board of its own state, and national accreditation from a body the federal education department recognizes
- Teaching staff on the program's own payroll who satisfy home-state and accreditor faculty criteria and are tied to a college or university
- Utah or compact-state licensure for any instructor who supervises students in person
- A written approach to picking and supervising the people and places that train its students
- A yearly filing, due each August 1, counting its Utah placements, vouching for instructor and preceptor licenses and confirming accreditation
All of that is TTUHSC's work, not yours. TTUHSC's accreditation page lists CCNE for its master's, DNP and post-graduate APRN certificate offerings (see accreditation). Whether its Utah standing is current right now is worth asking your program director about before any preceptor signs on.
Preceptor licenses and two compacts
One Utah requirement shapes your search directly. Utah wants every preceptor who teaches an outside program's student in the state to carry a clean license issued by Utah or by another Nurse Licensure Compact member. A Utah-licensed NP clears it easily.
Utah entered the RN compact in January 2018, so a multistate Utah license does the job for the MSN, whose license rule recognizes Texas licenses and compact multistate ones in good order. For the DNP, a current, unencumbered RN license from any state is enough. Utah was also an early adopter of the APRN Compact in 2022, yet that agreement stays dormant until a seventh state enacts it, so NP licenses still run state by state. TTUHSC's tracks for a Utah address
Every TTUHSC graduate clinical happens where the student lives, with the SON approving the preceptor and the facility as two separate decisions.

Meets opens the application, nothing more; TTUHSC flags that it may not be able to take students from some states and wants out-of-state applicants to talk with Admissions before applying. MSN NP students are on campus 7-8 days in total, and their OSCEs are held in Lubbock (campus visits).
Salt Lake City to St. George: practice and systems
AANP places Utah in its full-practice group. Most Utahns live around Salt Lake City and Murray, with Provo-Orem-Lehi, Ogden and St. George the next largest metros. University of Utah Health, Intermountain Health and HCA Healthcare's MountainStar group are the large systems. They show where NPs work; none has a set arrangement for TTUHSC students, and any may want an affiliation agreement in place first.
Utah's neighbors to the south and east, Arizona and Colorado, are closed to TTUHSC's graduate programs, so relocating to either ends your path. A move to any state requires telling TTUHSC no later than 60 days beforehand, and the receiving state's approval is judged one case at a time, based on your proposed placement. Questions TTUHSC students ask
Can a Utah nurse enroll in TTUHSC's online FNP program?
Yes, you can apply; the FNP is among the MSN tracks TTUHSC lists as meeting Utah's requirements, and no exclusion note sits beside the state. Whether you are accepted is TTUHSC's call, so start with its Admissions Team. The MSN FNP starts in Fall or Spring, and its rotations would be arranged in Utah once the SON approves your preceptor and site.
Does my preceptor need a Utah license?
Yes, or one from another compact state. Utah's rule reaches each preceptor who teaches an outside program's student inside Utah and asks for a license in good standing. A Utah-licensed nurse practitioner meets it. TTUHSC's own approval of that preceptor and the facility is a separate step on top of the state's rule.
Who files Utah's yearly report for TTUHSC students?
TTUHSC, as the sending program. By August 1 every year, Utah wants the school to report how many of its students train in Utah facilities, confirm that on-site instructors and preceptors hold Utah or compact licenses, and show current accreditation. You help most by handing TTUHSC correct preceptor and facility facts early.
Does Utah's APRN Compact help me yet?
Not yet. Utah enacted it in 2022, and Delaware, the Dakotas and Wyoming have joined it too, but seven enactments are needed before it operates. Until then, nurse practitioners are licensed one state at a time, and for TTUHSC's purposes the RN compact is the one that counts.
