Planning TTUHSC clinical hours in Nevada
Nevada passes TTUHSC's licensure disclosure for every graduate track, so residents can apply. It is also among the more demanding states for students of online programs: its nursing board ties clinical teaching by internet-delivered programs to Board approval, and Nevada stands apart from the nurse compact. TTUHSC's disclosure and Nevada
Look Nevada up on TTUHSC's licensure page and every graduate table reads "Meets," with no note barring graduate students.

An application still has to clear admission. Rules move, so TTUHSC's graduate pages avoid pledging at application time that residents of a given state can be enrolled, and they ask anyone outside Texas to reach its Admissions Team about eligibility first.
Nevada's rule for programs taught at a distance
Start with NAC 632.703. When a nursing program operates any part of itself in Nevada, the regulation has it file a Board-form report, attaching evidence of its accreditation or approval, proof of conformity with NRS and NAC chapter 632, and its annual school reports. A program taught online, or in some other nontraditional way, clears a second bar: no clinical instruction in Nevada without the Board's approval, plus Nevada licensure for its faculty teaching in the state.
The regulation's wording treats every level of program alike, graduate included. Yet when the Board updated its roster on September 1, 2026, the out-of-state schools approved for clinical-only operation in Nevada were all ADN or BSN programs. Two licenses to keep in view
TTUHSC's MSN tracks want an unencumbered RN license from Texas or one with compact multistate status. Nevada is outside the compact, and the compact map records no legislation to change that, so every Nevada license is single-state. An MSN applicant should plan on adding a Texas license or confirm another route with Admissions. The RN license page covers the DNP wording.
The reverse also holds. A Board practice decision says caring for patients located in Nevada, including nursing education with direct patient contact, requires a Nevada license, and a Texas multistate license carries no practice privilege there. If you already work as a nurse in Nevada, you hold one; keep it active through the program.
How Nevada expects precepted clinicals to run
Preceptor arrangements follow a Board practice decision from 2005, which asks for:
- Faculty directing the student's clinical experiences throughout
- A cap of two students per preceptor at any one time, with the preceptor physically on site
- Faculty available by phone while the student is in clinical
- A program-provided orientation for each preceptor, with written objectives
Nevada counts as full practice in AANP's terms, with a prescribing caveat for newer NPs: Schedule II prescribing opens up once an NP has 2,000 hours or two years of clinical experience behind them, or sooner under a protocol a physician has approved. Research found no Nevada preceptor incentive.
Las Vegas, Reno and the neighbors
Southern Nevada's metro around Las Vegas and Henderson is home to most of the state, the Reno metro trails well behind, and Carson City is small. Big providers include Renown Health and UMC of Southern Nevada; Dignity Health has hospitals in both Henderson and Las Vegas; HCA runs Sunrise Health System; and a Universal Health Services subsidiary operates The Valley Health System. Each stands as an example only, with TTUHSC approving every facility itself. California and Arizona, both next door, are closed to TTUHSC graduate applicants, and any move needs 60 days' notice to TTUHSC (moving out of state).

Is TTUHSC's online PMHNP track open to Nevada nurses?
Nevada is marked "Meets" for TTUHSC's MSN PMHNP and its other graduate tracks, so you may apply. Because Nevada regulates clinical teaching by online programs, confirm with TTUHSC's Admissions Team and, once admitted, your course faculty how a Nevada rotation would be approved.
Does TTUHSC need Nevada Board approval for my clinical hours?
Under NAC 632.703, the Board must approve before an online program provides any clinical instruction in Nevada, and the rule treats graduate programs no differently. The out-of-state programs on the Board's current clinical list are all pre-licensure. Ask TTUHSC how it handles Nevada before arranging a site.
Do I need both a Texas and a Nevada nursing license?
Probably. TTUHSC's MSN rule names Texas or compact multistate licenses, and Nevada issues single-state licenses only. Separately, a Nevada Board decision makes a Nevada license necessary for patient care in Nevada, and it counts students with direct patient contact. Confirm the details with Admissions.
What about a clinical site in California or Arizona?
Plan on Nevada instead. TTUHSC lists both California and Arizona as states it cannot accept graduate students from, and each has its own approval rules for out-of-state programs. Any exception would be your program director's call.
