Nurses in Maine can apply to TTUHSC's graduate tracks and keep their clinical hours in Maine, provided SON staff and faculty approve each preceptor and each facility. Maine's Board has published nothing aimed at programs from other states, so the approvals that shape your rotation are TTUHSC's.

Quiet rules on Maine's side
Maine's Board, going by its posted rules and education pages, says nothing about nursing programs from other states sending students to Maine clinics. The education rule it does keep, Chapter 7, governs how Maine approves its own prelicensure schools and is silent on outside placements.
Maine's student exemption in the Nurse Practice Act, 32 MRSA ยง2103(2), covers learners in Board-approved programs heading toward their first license. An RN pursuing an NP track doesn't match that description, so a Maine rotation rests on your RN license. Maine joined the compact in January 2018; a Maine multistate license therefore serves at Maine sites and also meets TTUHSC's MSN rule of a Texas or compact multistate RN license. Full practice, reached after two years
Maine counts as full practice on AANP's map, but new NPs reach it gradually: at least two years supervised by a physician or an NP, or employment at a hospital or clinic with a physician as medical director. A preceptor still inside that runway and one well past it go through the same TTUHSC review, which weighs license, practice and fit with your course (preceptor requirements).
Portland, Bangor, Lewiston-Auburn and the long miles between
Maine has three metropolitan areas. Portland-South Portland is the biggest at roughly 578,000 people, Bangor is second, and Lewiston-Auburn third, and much of the state lies outside all three. Northern Light Health, Central Maine Healthcare, MaineHealth and MaineGeneral Health are among the systems where Maine NPs practice; they sketch the terrain and carry no special arrangement with TTUHSC.
Away from those metros, the choice of practices for a given course can be narrow, which makes an early start worth it. Lining up one preceptor a semester or two ahead gives TTUHSC time to review the preceptor and the facility, including any agreement the facility needs (affiliation agreements).

Meets is the starting line, not the finish. Because regulations change, TTUHSC's graduate pages avoid promising at application time that every state's residents can be accepted, and they ask out-of-state applicants to reach the Admissions Team about eligibility before applying. A move out of Maine during the program means telling TTUHSC at least 60 days beforehand, with clinical approval in the next state decided case by case (relocation guide).

Questions TTUHSC students ask
Does Maine require TTUHSC to register before my clinical hours?
No such rule or guidance turns up among the Maine Board's postings, and its education rule concerns Maine's own prelicensure schools. Your rotation is governed by TTUHSC's approvals instead: the preceptor, the facility and the electronic agreement for each preceptor every semester.
Can a newer Maine NP precept me?
Full practice in Maine follows a two-year supervised stretch, or a job with a hospital or clinic led by a physician medical director. TTUHSC has not published graduate preceptor qualifications such as years of experience, so your course faculty decide whether a particular NP fits.
How many trips to Texas should a Maine student expect?
MSN NP and midwifery students are on campus 7-8 days across the entire program, and OSCEs happen in Lubbock. BSN to DNP students plan on at least one campus visit per semester, usually a day or two, in Lubbock, Austin or Dallas. The intensives page lays it out.
Could I do a rotation across the line in New Hampshire?
Ask TTUHSC first, since every out-of-state site needs its approval. New Hampshire belongs to the compact, so a Maine multistate license carries over, and its registration and per-placement forms are aimed at pre-licensure programs. Your course faculty will confirm whether a New Hampshire site suits your course.
