About Texas Tech Preceptor
Texas Tech Preceptor is a placement desk built for one group of students: those in the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing who need preceptors and clinical sites. We find clinicians near you who fit your TTUHSC course, prepare what TTUHSC's approval asks for, and remain on hand until your last clinical hour is signed off.

What we do
TTUHSC divides the clinical work clearly. Graduate nurse practitioner students secure a preceptor for each clinical course, usually close to home, and SON staff and faculty approve each preceptor and each facility. We take on the student's half of that arrangement, from the first call to the last approved hour.

Built around TTUHSC's own process
Everything we do follows the way TTUHSC actually runs clinicals. Its graduate students train in their home area. Its approval covers the preceptor and the facility. Its electronic preceptor agreement is completed for each preceptor every semester. And its Clinical Placement, Affiliation Agreements, and Preceptor Management unit handles facility agreements. Each placement we build is designed to fit all four.
We also plan around campus days, the life-support cards each track requires, and the term calendar, so a preceptor's schedule and TTUHSC's dates line up from the first week. TTUHSC decides every approval; our role is to make sure what it receives is thorough and consistent with its rules. The clinical placement process guide shows the whole path end to end.

Where we search
TTUHSC students live across a wide map, and our search covers it. We work in Lubbock and the South Plains, Amarillo and the Panhandle, Abilene and the Big Country, Midland, Odessa and the Permian Basin, and Dallas-Fort Worth, as well as the small towns of rural West Texas where the nearest fitting clinician can be a long drive away. In every region we weigh the same things: how well a practice fits your course, how far you will drive, and how quickly the facility side can clear.

How we keep our guidance accurate
Everything on this site comes from TTUHSC's own published sources: the 2026-27 catalog, which TTUHSC treats as the official academic record for the year, the Student Handbook, the program pages and the professional licensure disclosure. When two TTUHSC sources conflict, for instance on some credit totals and clinical hours, we present both versions and name the source that settles the question.
Where TTUHSC has not published something, such as its graduate preceptor deadline or the name of its agreement system, we say so plainly and tell you which TTUHSC office or title to ask. Every page carries its last review date, and we revise pages when TTUHSC's catalog, handbook or calendar changes. If you notice something that has changed at TTUHSC, tell us through the form and we will check it against the official source.

Do you work with students outside Texas?
Yes. TTUHSC lets graduate students complete clinical hours in their home area, and some of them live beyond Texas. We search in the states where TTUHSC accepts graduate students and plan around each state's rules, which our state guides cover one by one. Fit comes first. The clinician's specialty and patients have to match your TTUHSC course, the facility has to be one TTUHSC can approve, and the schedule has to cover your hours within the term. We also weigh drive time, and whether the practice could host you again for later courses.
