TTUHSC's footprint in Amarillo
Amarillo is the administrative home of TTUHSC's Jerry H. Hodge School of Pharmacy, and the School of Nursing delivers program instruction there as well. The Traditional BSN arrived on the Amarillo campus in 2022, and Amarillo is one of the clinical sites TTUHSC names for the Accelerated BSN. TTUHSC's simulation program also counts an Amarillo location among its seven sites.
For graduate students, the most practical local resource is Harrington Library, the Amarillo branch of TTUHSC Libraries alongside the Preston Smith Library in Lubbock and the Odessa Library of the Health Sciences. Graduate NP coursework is delivered mostly online, so the campus serves Panhandle students more as a home base than a classroom: somewhere to study and research, a short drive from home.
A campus nearby, a search that stays yours
Having a campus in town does not change who finds an NP preceptor. Undergraduate students in Amarillo are placed by the faculty who teach their clinical courses. Graduate NP students find their own preceptor, SON staff and faculty approve both the clinician and the facility, and an electronic agreement is completed for every preceptor each semester.
Campus trips still pull Panhandle students south. MSN NP students sit their OSCEs in Lubbock, BSN to DNP students attend intensives in Lubbock, Austin or Dallas at least once a semester, and Post-Master's DNP intensives are anchored on the Lubbock campus. What Amarillo's health systems publish
Amarillo's hospital landscape includes BSA Health System and Northwest Texas Healthcare System. A search for an NP-student page at BSA returned only job postings, and no published NP-student process was confirmed for Northwest Texas. That leaves no hospital route to lean on, and any secondhand claim that a Panhandle hospital runs an NP-student program is worth checking on that system's own pages.
Treat both systems as places where clinicians practice, not as placement offices. A hospitalist, an ICU-based nurse practitioner or a clinic physician employed by either one may be willing to precept, and the facility question then belongs to TTUHSC: whether an agreement already covers the site where you would train, or whether one needs to be started. Matching a Panhandle clinician to your TTUHSC course
A preceptor helps only if their patients fit your course. Across a region as spread out as the Panhandle, that requirement narrows the field quickly, especially for acute care and pediatric tracks. Use this table as a starting filter, then confirm fit with your course faculty.

Distance, small towns and shortage areas
Outside Amarillo, the Panhandle is a wide map of small towns, and a student in one of them may find that the nearest clinician who fits their course is a long drive away. That drive repeats every clinical day, so it belongs in the decision alongside fit and availability. A clinician in a larger town partway between you and Amarillo can sometimes split the difference.

Does the Amarillo campus place graduate NP students with preceptors?
Faculty placement applies to undergraduate students on the campus. Graduate NP students find their own preceptor, and TTUHSC approves the clinician and the facility. BSN to DNP students also get help from faculty and TTUHSC's preceptor team with selecting and contracting. Nurse-midwifery is different: its placement is coordinated by TTUHSC faculty and site coordinators.
Does BSA Health System take NP students from online programs?
BSA has not published an NP-student process that could be found; searches turned up only job postings. If you approach a BSA-based clinician, ask how their department handles students, and raise the facility with TTUHSC early so any agreement question surfaces well before your term begins. Treat the hospital as the clinician's workplace rather than a placement office.
Can I use Harrington Library as a graduate student living in Amarillo?
Harrington Library is the Amarillo branch of TTUHSC Libraries, the same system as the Preston Smith Library in Lubbock and the Odessa Library of the Health Sciences. Check the library's own pages for hours and distance-student services. Library access for preceptors is not described on TTUHSC's public pages, so avoid offering it to a clinician as a perk.
Do I have to travel to Lubbock for OSCEs if I live in Amarillo?
TTUHSC's archived graduate FAQ places the MSN NP OSCEs in Lubbock, with dates shared a couple of months ahead. The campus for some other on-campus requirements, such as skills labs, is not stated in the lines TTUHSC publishes, so confirm each one with course faculty. Plan the trips into your preceptor schedule once dates arrive.
How far ahead should Panhandle students start their search?
Start at least a full semester before the clinical course. TTUHSC does not publish its graduate submission deadline, and a facility with no agreement in place may need time before you can train there. In a spread-out region, allow extra weeks for reaching clinicians and for a backup. Course faculty or the Graduate Coordinator can confirm your actual due date.
